JAKE SCOFIELD WRESTLES IN FLORIDA AT THE DISNEY DUALS! July 2013
OSLC's Jake Scofield, an upcoming senior at Flandreau High School, attends the Disney Duals the first week in July 2013! South Dakota took three teams to the National Wrestling competition, Disney Duals; held at the Wide World of Sports ESPN Center in Orlando, Florida. There was a development team, a South Dakota Blue team and a South Dakota Red team. To be on the development team you were not a SD State B Wrestling place winner. To be in contention to be on the Blue and Red teams you had to be a SD State B Wrestling place winner. The kids wrestled off to determine who was on which team. The winners of the wrestle offs were on the Blue team. Jake placed fourth in the SD State B wrestling tournament held in Feb 2013 and was defeated in wrestle offs by Lane Blasius, the individual that placed second at the state tournament. Therefore, Jake was on the South Dakota Red team. The Red team wrestled in a pool of 8 teams from; two different teams from Ohio and Massachusetts, and then a team from each Michigan, New York, and Florida. How they placed in their pools determined which placing bracket they were in. The Red team placed 6th in their pool. They proceeded then to wrestle two different teams from Massachusetts, two different teams from Michigan and they had to wrestle the same team from Nebraska twice, losing to them in the first match, but came back through wrestle backs and won, to place 5th in their bracket of 12 team’s total. Jake’s overall record for the 4 day event was 7 and 5 (7 wins 5 loses). Jake said “it was a great experience; there are a lot of really good wrestlers there and it was great experience for me! The other big benefit from the event is all the new friendships made along the way!” Jake also said “I couldn’t have done it without the support of this great community and the prayers of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, it was an amazing experience!”
